This book is fun. I like the whole acceptance angle of the book. It was a strong text. The illustrations were light and fun, but the text itself was very compelling. I liked it. Choldenko's picture books are every bit as good as her chapter books. ( )

How to Make Friends with a Giant is a cute book about two boys, the shortest and the tallest in the class, and the way they became friends. While other classmates are saying mean things about the giant boy and making him feel sad, Jake thinks of creative ways to make him feel welcome. There are many connections that can be made with this story. ( )

Jake is the shorest kid in class. The new kid in school, Jacomo, is tall--a giant. They form a friendship. I didn't like the way it was written; five to six word sentences and the sentences were boring. The illustrations reminded me too much like bobble head characters.
