While I enjoyed this for the most part there were instances that threw me.

There was something that Raquel should have done numerous times and didn't. While she had her reasons, none of them made sense to me.
She never told the police and later Astor that her perfume was stolen.

The 1st part of my spoiler made it hard for me to think of her as intelligent.
While I understand her reluctance to tell Astor in the beginning of her encounters with him, it became annoying later.

Her way of 'investigating' left a lot to be desired. She was NOT good at it.

The flow is pretty good, but on occasion slowed down. Mostly due to Raquel's character.

Astor I fell in love with.
He made the story for me.

All in all, it was a good story, but I needed more action. I needed her ex to get his comeuppance. That area was just left dangling and it annoyed me.

I will definitely explore this author more in the near future. The story was enough to get me interested in her work.

Raquel Wren's life has been turned upside down. She's in the midst of a divorce after finding her husband in bed with the weather girl. Her passion is creating the perfect perfume for every occasion. Her passion began in her childhood garden right before her mother died of cancer.

She was going to sell her newest perfume to Dazzle and Shine for licensing which would allow her to buy him out and keep her afloat for a bit. Someone broke into her shop and stole her notes, Orris oil, and broke her scale. Oh and her perfume was not in her purse as she placed it for her appointment with D&S.

She found out that someone is using her formula to make her perfume. Raquel starts working for The House of Beauregard to find out who stole her formula and get it back. She has numerous encounters with Astor Beauregard the CEO and driving force behind the cologne mogul company. He makes he weak in the knees like no one has before--not even her sexy as hell ex.

Astor has a secret that only he and his family knows. No one will ever find out what it is. His past haunts him every day of his life to the point that he never sets foot into his childhood home. He tends to the horses on the land but never into the house. In his company, he's brutal. He has zero tolerance for spies--that what he thinks Raquel is. She is after more than what she's telling him. He knows when someone is keeping secrets. She has all the signs --he should know, he has plenty of his own. Something about her pulls her to him in the most primal way. He wants to resist her, keep her away --but he can't. He even invites her into his home and takes her to Havana--his heritage. He wants to beat the crap out of her ex for tossing her aside. He takes every opportunity he can to be with her from the lab supply closet to his yacht to his bedroom. She is a part of him. He lets her in when no one has ever been close to his heart. How can a woman he's only known for a matter of weeks be so ingrained in every fiber of his being? How can he get closer to her so she will reveal her secrets to him? ( )

You know when you crack open the pages of a Vanessa Fewings story you are going to see sizzle off the page. Astor and Raquel do not disappoint as their story is unraveled before your eyes. At first, you may think this is a typical bait and switch where the heroine will win at the end of the day by turning the bad boy around.

Ms Fewings weaves the story of suspense mixed in with an unexpected story with characters resisting the pull. Both characters are wary of the other, unsure if they can fully trust the other. Astor and Raquel sense the secrets. Vanessa Fewings keeps the story with just enough twist to engage the reader to want to 'what happens next.' The secondary characters are just as intriguing as you wander through the story. Oh and the door closes - Oh my - Whew. Be prepared to fan yourself *ALOT* once Astor decided Raquel is what he wants.

It's hard to write a review without spoiling the story. Ms Fewings crafts the story with visuals and words you can just imagine the sights and sounds as Raquel tries to recover her lost formula. Will you take a chance and help her in the hunt? It is a perfect standalone to get lost in the ride. It has an outcome I didn't see coming...and enjoyed every turn of the page.
