This book is really well down. A POC little person is going to be FIERCE today. And they are. I loved how the illustrator interpreted the words of the writer. “Climb the mountain of knowledge” is illustrated as going to the library. There are other great word and image pairings in this book that make it a joy to read.

Let's go girl!! I am inspired to go and be fierce when I take on my day tomorrow. Birdsong created a spin on aspects of classic fairy tales but in the school setting. Standing up to dragons (dogs). Taking on the many-headed serpent (school bus filled with kids). Becoming her own hero (speaking in front of the class). Her adventure is exciting to readers as it is relatable while fantasy, and she teaches us all that our everyday life events can be journeys of adventure. We can be conquerors. We can be victorious. We can be fierce. ( )

I really liked this story. It tells the story of a girl on the first day of school, and how she remains brave and confident when encountering all of the new things at school. I think this is a great book to read to younger students because it shows them that being yourself and being brave doesn't have to be that scary. I think it builds the confidence in the students who read or hear it. ( )

Fierceness has never looked so cute and sweet. And even if she is no tiger, the main character overcomes her trepidations about the first day of school to demonstrate how to be brave and bold in even your smallest actions. Very nice. ( )
