FBI agent Kendra Donovan has been trapped in 1816 England for the last six months, a victim of a disappearing wormhole. Her expertise has been invaluable in catching a number of murderers if with the limitation of today's forensic technology. Her ability to interview witnesses and possible suspects, many members of the British aristocracy, would have been hampered if she was presented as the ward, the Duke of Aldridge, who knows her secret.
When the naked, garroted corpse of Sir Giles Holbrooke, former spymaster, is discovered in an abandoned London church with his tongue removed and crosses tattooed in his skin, Bow Street Runner (the predecessor of the police) Sam Kelley is asked to investigate. He requests the assistance of the Duke show more and, especially, Kendra Donovan.
Although this novel follows much of the same pattern of the first three books. Kendra continues to be frustrated by the social rules, especially for females, as she interviews witnesses often requiring the assistance of the Duke to open doors. She also continues to receive marriage requests from Alec, her lover and the Duke's nephew, but is afraid to agree because she fears what impact this action might have on the future.
As implausible as I find how Kendra ended up in her current predicament and how easily she has adjusted to be in the past, I still enjoy reading these mysteries. Although you could read this as a standalone, I would recommend you begin with the first in the series, Caught in Time. The read will enjoy how her relationship with a number of the reoccurring characters evolves in the series. show less

Another great story in the Kendra Donovan series. I am glad that there are two more books in this series for me to read because I am not ready for this story to end yet. I love how Kendra is always trying to use her future knowledge to help solve the murders without giving away anything that could possibly change the future. That has to be a difficult line to walk.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Well written interesting, compelling & at times funny.... show less

Love the story again, but I feel more annoy at Kendra than the previous book. She wanted to "blend in" but she do everything not to be. Investigation is one thing, but she can't even accept a simple rule of having escorts. Sigh. And what's the point of accepting Alec yet not fully? Argh she annoy me so much when she's with Alec.
For the first time, I wish that this didn't include the MC having romance.
