Astrid has loved the stars and space for as long as she can remember. "I want to be an astronaut!" she says to everyone who will listen. While her mama is away, Astrid and her papa have fun acting out the challenges an astronaut faces on a space mission-like being in zero gravity ("I can do that all day long!" she says), eating food from a kind of tube, and doing science experiments with the help of cookie sheets. When at last it's time to meet Mama at the airbase, Astrid wears her favorite space T-shirt to greet her. But where exactly has Mama been? Channeling a sense of childlike delight, Ken Wilson-Max brings space travel up close for young audiences and offers an inspiring ending.… (more)

Astrid has been dreaming of being an astronaut. A conversation between Astrid and her adult gives us new vocabulary around space. At the end of the story we met Astrid's mom, who is an astronaut. ( )

Reading books with a black girl representing has always been a favorite of mine. I love seeing a young girl that looks like me understand her power. ( )

Astrid wants to be an astronaut just like her mom when she grows up. The story talks about the different things astronauts have to do in space, and Astrid believes she will be able to take on all of the challenges. This would be a great story to read to children who are interested in astronauts and space. ( )

Astrid wants to be an astronaut when she gets older, just like her hero. A book little astronauts will enjoy! The last page of the book includes some real astronaut facts. For example: The first animal to go into orbit was a dog named Laika, on the Russian Sputnik 2 spacecraft in November 1957. ( )
