My Review: A heartfelt and emotionally deep story about connection, loss, and hope. Keplinger writes with compassion and realism, making it a powerful read for students grappling with change and identity.
the middle grade feel good book of the summer.

Hadley's life has turned upside down. Her mother is in jail for embezzling from her employer. Hadley has to move from Tennessee to Kentucky to live with an older sister, Beth, she hasn't seen in years. She has to leave her friends. Her eye sight is diminishing due to retinitis pigmentosa.

Beth is a dog trainer and works part time at a dog rescue. When she stops by for a few minutes with Hadley in tow, Hadley befriends a sad pitbull named Lila. Even though Hadley "ain't a dog person" she's the only one who has gotten through to Lila. Hadley reluctantly agrees to try and train Lila so she can be adopted.

Thus starts a mutual benefit society between girl and dog. Lila and Hadley is a lovely book show more and work reading. It'll only take a few days, but is well worth the time. Enjoy. show less
