Description
The dwarves have gone to battle and they have been victorious. But outside the realm, dark forces are at work.. .A secret army of Orcs, made immortal by the hidden powers of the Black Water, now marches towards Girdlegard, set to unleash its fury upon the kingdom. Sooner than they realize, Tungdil and his comrades will need to summon all their courage to do battle against this bloodthirsty horde.
The Orcs are not the only threat. An unspeakable new power is growing and threatens the very show more existence of the dwarves. But both enemies have forgotten one very important truth: a dwarf is never more dangerous than when total obliteration seems inevitable . . .

500 pages in and I can't do it. Nothing has happened. The first book had female and male characters with agency and a solid goal. The sequel is a muddled mess. Are the orcs the evil to be defeated or the alf or the dwarf killers? I get the feeling the intrigue of this book is an attempt to imitate the success of Game of Thrones. I don't want to give this book anymore attention. Pass do not buy.
My experience with the sequel to the Dwarves is similar as with its predecessor: nice story in a nice world, but too straightforward and just too simple. Characters are still the caricatures of themselves (especially Ireheart and Rodario) which is quite funny, but doesn't do the story justice. Also, Girdlegard and its history deserve much more attention in my opinion. Finally, the (few) moral dilemma's of the characters in the book are not investigated in depth.
So, in general I like the world, the story and Tungdil, the main character, but I'm not really satisfied by the book as a whole. I read somewhere that Markus Heitz writes exceptionally fast, but I'm afraid it shows in his work.

So glad he did another one. Elves are so overdone! :o)

Fall-Winter-2010
