Loading... The Return (1995)by HÃ¥kan Nesser
![]() No current Talk conversations about this book. I'd missed this one in the march through the Van Vetteren series. A man released from prison after serving two twelve year sentences, each for a murder he claims he did not commit. Shortly after he returns home, a headless, handless body is found by some children in the woods, and the ex-convict has disappeared. Very hard to see past the overt misogyny in this book from the murderer who kills because his wife is unable to have sex with him and other women reject him to the returned innocent prisoner who thinks his various girlfriends want him to beat them. Van Veeteren's treatment of one of the nursing staff as little more than a drinks slave was also very unpalatable. Van Veeteren, a philosophical detective, discovers truth through a view of the world that no on in his department seems to have. He thinks and ponders. He considers world views and his own place in the world. He knows where the lines of the law lay and is willing to at least consider whether to step across. no reviews | add a review

HTML: International Bestseller On a rainy April day, a bodyâ??or what is left of itâ??is found by a young girl. Wrapped in a blanket with no hands, feet, or head, it signals the work of a brutal, methodical killer. The victim, Leopold Verhaven, was a track star before he was convicted for killing two of his ex-lovers. He consistently proclaimed his innocence, however, and was killed on the day of his return to society. This latest murder is more than a little perplexing and Chief Inspector Van Veeteren is determined to discover the truth, even if it means taking the law into his own hands No library descriptions found. |

"Quattordici frugoletti. (
