Fantasy. Romance. Folklore. Young Adult Fiction. HTML:A modern masterpiece, this is a classic Gothic thriller-fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Erin A. Craig, about doomed love, menacing ambition, and the ghosts that haunt us forever.
In a manor by the sea, one sister is still cursed.

Despite dreams of adventures far beyond the Salann shores, seventeen-year-old Verity Thaumas has remained at her familyâ??s estate, Highmoor, with her older sister Camille, while their sisters have scattered across Arcannia.
When their sister Mercy sends word that the Duchess of Bloemâ??wife of a celebrated botanistâ??is interested in having Verity paint a portrait of her son, Alexander, Verity jumps at the chance, but Camille wonâ??t allow it. Forced to reveal the secret sheâ??s kept for years, Camille tells Verity the truth one day: Verity is still seeing ghosts, she just doesnâ??t know it.
Stunned, Verity flees Highmoor that night andâ??with nowhere else to turnâ??makes her way to Bloem. At first, she is captivated by the lush, luxurious landscape and is quickly drawn to charming, witty, and impossibly handsome Alexander Laurent. And soon, to her surprise, a romance . . . blossoms.

So the problem with this book is:
1. Way too many storylines that point to who could be the murderer.
2. Way too many hot topics covered.
3. There are really no good people in this book, everyone is lying, cheating, scheming, backstabbing, or and or behaving like a pig or a sociopath. ( )

On one hand I was glad that reading an Adult book by Star Shepard still felt like Sara Shepard. She was able to retain her style and translate it to older characters in an interesting way. On the other hand, sometimes it felt just a tad too much like PLL with allllllll the drama and the secrets and the lies. Certainly not a book that will bore you at least!! But it might be one that overwhelms you with just how many surprises each character can have in their lives.

I liked how connected everyone was in this book— their lies and secrets might not always have everything to do with the other characters, but everyone was connected to each other somehow.... but mostly through lies and secrets.

I didn’t realize this book was going to be set in my hometown city (Pittsburgh), so that was a giant plus!! I loved reading about real neighborhoods and landmarks that I’ve been to so many times. But also, being that I know so much about the city— anytime there was an error, I was kinda pissed. And there were errors.

Did I mention this book is about secrets and lies?? Well, it is!!! If you need a fun, easy sort of mystery/thriller- with secrets and lies- read this! ( )

I wasn’t really expecting a whole lot from this book. Maybe it was wrong of me, but my thinking was based on this being the author of the Pretty Little Liars series. i’m glad to say I was completely mistaken.
Murder, hackers, secrets... just a few of the things to keep you guessing. I did a lot of that, but remained stumped almost until the end. Each time I thought I had the answer, another option was presented, someone else with a secret to hide. A pretty good, quick read. ( )

I had no idea the Pretty Little Liar author also wrote adult fiction! Same fast pace and quick wit but without the cliffhanger ending. Plenty of twists, abundant subplots, and drama galore made for a fun read!

I won this ARC of this on Goodreads. ( )
