To be completely honest, I never expected to enjoy this book. As someone who typically avoids thrillers by popular authors, I was initially hesitant to dive into its pages. However, to my surprise, this book quickly captured my attention right from the second page.
The plot twists and turns were mind-blowing and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The unconventional storyline and portrayal of flawed parenting added an extra layer of complexity to the narrative, making it all the more gripping and heart-wrenching.
The author expertly weaves a web of suspense that keeps readers thoroughly engaged and invested in the story. Her ability to keep us guessing about the true identity of the villain only adds fuel to our insatiable desire show more to unravel the mystery.
It is worth mentioning that this book delves into dark themes and may contain triggering elements for some readers. Nonetheless, I highly recommend giving it a chance as its powerful storytelling will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on you. show less

Erica Cass has everything, a loving husband and two teenage children Liam and Hannah. A local girl Olivia goes missing and Liam is the last person to see her. Surely Liam isn't responsible or is he.
This so far has to be by least favourite by Freida Mcffaden, although I did quite like the book. It's a typical thriller with all the usual twists and turns. The author does do a good job of leading the reader a certain way and then the story will twist another.
I have to say I don't think I would have guessed but I accidentally read a review with a spoiler so I knew who it was going to be. There was a final little twist on the last page which did save the day.
Recommended to anyone who like a quick, snappy thriller. I will continue to read show more more by books by the author. show less

8 hours: A family, typical husband Jason, wife, Erika, and two teenaged children, a boy Liam (16) and Hannah( 13). Typical in many ways, but their son, Liam, has a very disturbing background of behavior. He is extremely intelligent, polite, talented, mostly obedient, but appears to be a sociopath. One day, detectives show up at their house, and inquire about a girl in Liam's class. She has vanished. He was the last person to see her according to a witness. Has he done something unthinkable?
I give this book 3.5 stars. Although engrossing, the ending I feel is implausible. Ruined the whole story for me. Very different from her Housemaid series.

The Perfect Son was my first foray into Freida McFadden’s work and it won’t be my last. I’m glad I randomly chose her book on Audible.
I was hooked from the start and the book flew right on by. The chapters are short so that was nice. I listened to this on audio but I have a feeling I’d rather have read it in print because I think the tension and mystery would stand out better that way.
Although I found some of the twists and turns a bit far-fetched, I enjoyed the story and I didn’t mind suspending disbelief at times. I was very entertained throughout and that’s what I look for in a book, so this one delivered.

Well this was a messed up story. I was not expecting the ending; Freida did a great job of keeping me thinking I had it figured out and proving that I actually, did not.
This was another decent Freida book. Typical popcorn thriller. This was a bit predictable. The husband seemed a little too perfect. I did like the twist at the end that the son may also have killed a girl. Like he learned from his dad not to shit where you eat and kill girls that aren't close. I assumed throughout the book that it wasn't him that took Olivia. I feel like the end happened quick, where bam, in a minute, Jason the father was killed. It was good for what it was, a quick popcorn thriller that's easy to read!!
I’m still hooked on Freida McFadden’s books. I chose to give the Housemaid series a pause and read The Perfect Son. It was another great one! Freida delivers that unexpected twist I’ve come to rely on. The twist in this book literally stopped me in my tracks.
Erika Cass seems to have it all: a loving husband, two adorable teenaged kids, and a seemingly perfect life. Her eldest son, Liam, is a real gem - he’s got great grades, loves running track, and is a natural at debate. And his younger sister, Hannah, is just going through her typical teenage phase of snarkiness. Her husband, Jason, is the classic patriarch of the house, running his own business and keeping everything in order.
Olivia, a teenage girl, goes missing, and Liam, show more the last person to see her, becomes a prime suspect. Erika has always questioned the authenticity of Liam’s perfect image and personality. Everyone at school and in town believes Liam is responsible for Olivia’s disappearance. As the evidence builds, Erika’s suspicions of her son grow stronger.
I got the audiobook from Audible. The narrator, Suzie Althens, was great, but Daniel Thomas May’s voice in this one wasn’t my cup of tea. Luckily, his part was short, or I might have switched to a physical copy. I wish his voice had sounded different.
I have photos and additional information that I'm unable to include here. It can all be found on my blog, in the link below.
