AF has interesting ideas but only delivers the shallowest take on them. Feels like eating cotton candy- nothing filling about it. ( ) I never love Avery Flynn's books but I do always quite enjoy them. They are perfect beach or holiday books. I really enjoy how her characters are not standard but instead are quirky and unique. I like he storylines a lot but I do feel like they wrap up rather quickly. All and all they are solid books that rarely disappoint. Avery Flynn hits it in the net with LOUD MOUTH (Ice Knights #3). Ice Knights hockey star Ian Petrov discovers that his hockey Hall of Fame father cheated on his mother and had a son: his best friend and teammate Alex Christensen. He heads to the mountains to get away from the press. Things get worse when he is trapped with the person that leaked his story, Shelby Blanton. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers. Avery Flynn does a fantastic job with this story. It is skillfully written and has interesting twists. I like her use of timeline in the novel. Shelby is an admiral heroine. She is six years sober. This is the first sports romance that I have read that a female main character is a recovering alcoholic. It always seems to be the male athlete. I appreciated the different point of view. I also liked that Ian never held that against her. Ian is a good guy. He feels like he has always lived in his father’s shadow. It did not help that his dad was a jerk. I like how the characters developed in the story. They are both genuine and likable people. LOUD MOUTH was entertaining and hard to put down. It was heartwarming and humorous. It is a wonderful addition to the Ice Knight series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. The perfect romantic comedy 5 stars I’ll be honest, as much as I like - nay, love - Avery Flynn and her writing, I wasn’t sure if I was going to love this particular story for two reasons. 1) What kind of person outs secret brothers on a blog? Can I like someone who would do something like that? and 2) Can I like, or more like, can I identify with, a heroine who is obviously a total badass when I am so ridiculously not a badass? My first question gets answered within the first few pages - and that worry dissolved. And secondly, while Shelby is definitely a badass with her funky hair, tats, piercings and general demeanour - she’s still completely relatable, even to a wimp like me! She’s got her problems just the same as the rest of us - probably more so than that - and I fell in love with her from the first moment. She’s a lovely blend of vulnerable and kickass - and I adored hearing her hilarious inner thoughts and, of course, the way she squares up against Ian. Ian is equally delicious and I felt he had his vulnerabilities as well, although he hides them underneath his grumpy, grunty, gruff self. He is my kind of hero - all big and broody - and properly head over heels for the heroine - even if he’s a bit miffed at that fact. He too is hilarious, but this is Avery Flynn - of course he is! And a special mention for the bromance between Alex and Ian. Even when they hate each other, they can’t stop the banter. It makes my insides tingle! And speaking of the tingles - this book is hella sexy. I mean it’s fan yourself in your special places just in case you’re on fire, sexy! You also just really want to smoosh Ian and Shelby’s faces together when they’re being stubborn and trying to stay away from each other. It’s delightfully infuriating. This is an Avery Flynn book so of course it’s absolutely hilarious. I don’t just mean a small chuckle to myself - I laughed out loud on a number of occasions. Either Ms Flynn is stalking my brain or we were meant to be best friends! The fact that there’s sex and lots of swearing and I am one happy bunny. This is the third book in the Ice Knights series (after Parental Guidance and Awk-Weird) but it stands completely alone. There are name checks for those from previous books, including Ms Flynn’s Hartigan’s series and Lucy Kavanaugh from that series appears more than most as she’s the Ice Knights’ PR queen. I keep on forgetting how much I love Avery Flynn - she truly is the queen of the romcom. Loud Mouth is the kind of book that gives you that happy feeling - both from the romance and from the giggle you get while reading. Ian and Shelby are the perfect couple and I loved every minute of reading their story. Definitely 5 stars. no reviews | add a review
