Description

"In the dungeon, one false step can be the difference between life and death...or elf and dwarf?! The changeling mushrooms have done their work, leaving Laios and company radically altered, transformed from one race to another! The journey into the heart of the dungeon was never going to be easy, but with new senses, strengths, and statures to contend with, the mission seems more daunting than ever. Thankfully their sense of taste doesn't seem to have been affected!!"--Provided by publisher.

The art is still great and we're learning a lot of neat stuff about character backstories this volume, which I enjoy! There's lots of fun tidbits on things, and see the elves in action is awesome (and disturbing, but interesting, at least).
In this installment, the main party continues on their journey while dealing with the fallout after changeling mushrooms altered their races. They also continue to share more of their backgrounds with each other. Chilchuck reveals the secrets of the dissolution of his marriage.

Meanwhile, above ground, the elvish envoys try to evacuate the first level of the dungeon with Kabru and the other friends of the main party. We learn more about the elves and how they manage dungeons. We see a conflict with the lunatic magician which ends with Falin, the magician, Kabru and the leader of the elves falling deeper into the dungeon.

I really like where this series is going. It continues to be fresh, interesting, and intriguing.
Despite being fine, this seems like a very skippable volume in an otherwise good series. No real progress occurs.

I do like Captain Mithrun, a new character who has no sense of direction and a lack depth perception due to having only one good eye and yet has still very effectively weaponized her otherwise feeble teleportation skills.
This felt a little slower.
I think those elfs might suffer for a bit with this particular dungeon. Which would be a good thing actually.
My new favorite volume of the series!
I'm still very much enjoying this series.
