Mystery. Suspense. Thriller. Young Adult Fiction. HTML:

From breakout debut author Chelsea Ichaso comes Little Creeping Things, a compulsively readable YA suspense novel with a narrator who can't be trusted, perfect for fans of Natasha Preston. She never meant to hurt anyone...

When she was a child, Cassidy Pratt accidentally started a fire that killed her neighbor. At least, that's what she's been told. She can't remember anything from that day. She's pretty sure she didn't mean to do it. She's a victim too. But her town's bullies, particularly the cruel and beautiful Melody Davenport, have never let her live it down. In Melody's eyes, Cassidy is a murderer and always will be.

And then Melody goes missing, and Cassidy thinks she may have information about what happened. She knows she should go to the cops, but...she recently joked about how much she'd like to get rid of Melody. She even planned out the perfect way to do it. And then she gets a chilling text from an unknown number: I'm so glad we're in this together.

Now it's up to Cassidy to figure out what's really going on, before the truth behind Melody's disappearance sets the whole town ablaze.

This was just too much teenage drama for my taste, especially since it’s not even specified as YA or otherwise. I had to talk myself into finishing this book. Multiple times I wanted to just put it down and walk away. The writing itself wasn’t bad, the author has an incredible voice and knows how to create an enthralling tale. My issue was with the characters. Throughout the entire read I was enraged with the main character, Cassidy, who proved to be a selfish teenager who plays victim while inflicting the same behaviors from which she suffers. A bully who spreads lies and gossip while decrying her own trauma and treatment. It was such a gross display of irresponsibility that it was hard to focus on the actual story because I was too busy being angry. Even with multiple opportunities to come clean, or be a good person, or just be honest, Cassidy refuses to take the higher road. Until the bitter end, she remains a petulant and possessive.

I was given an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ( )

When Cassidy Pratt was seven she accidentally started a fire that killed her friend. She can't actually remember it happening, but that's what she's been told. Melody Davenport has never let Cassidy live it down because that was her cousin that died. But Melody goes missing, and Cassidy thinks she has information that could help. But she can't go to the cops. It's up to her to figure out what happened.

This was a compulsive read for me. The story seemed to flow and it was easy to lose track of time. We get interesting morsels that kept me flying through the pages. I couldn't wait to discover exactly what happened, not only to Melody but with the fire all those years ago as well. I liked the twists and turns. Great cover! I was not disappointed with this young adult novel!

Thank you to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire for an ARC. ( )

Little Creeping Things

This is a YA thriller but I thought it would be a horror or supernatural book based on title and cover. That's what I get for assuming! Lol! It's a murder mystery involving high school teens.
The story is pretty good, the murder plot is great and the ending very surprising! The characters were ok and dialogue were teenage believable. What I didn't like, but happens with almost all teen books, is the horrible teen angst! If this was out of the book it would be even more enjoyable although I did like the story as is. ( )

She never meant to kill anyone. She doesn't even remember setting the fire, or anything about that fateful day. But the town Cassidy Pratt lives in has never let her forget that the fire killed her neighbor. She is labeled a murderer, and has to live with it. When a local who bullies her about her past disappears, Cassidy's life is once again thrown into chaos. She had just joked about the perfect way to rid herself of Melody before the disappearance.... She can't go to the police. She will just look guilty. And then there's the chilling text message she received. I'm glad we're in this together......

This book was an exciting and fun read. Nothing new here, but an enjoyable, suspenseful story nonetheless. The plot moves along at a perfect pace....revealing just a little bit of the truth at a time until the very end. Nicely done. Very atmospheric and creepy cool.

Well written and entertaining. I look forward to more by this author.

This is a very fast paced thriller that I read in about 2 days. It centers around Cass who is having normal teen problems in high school but who is also seeing things that are not there. Plus she has always been bullied by an older girl, Melody, who blames her for her cousin's death which happened when Cass was in pre-school. Cass writes down in a notebook how she would kill Melody (as a joke). Well, Melody and this notebook have disappeared. Now Cass is on a chase to save Melody and make sure she doesn't get framed for what has happened. The only part of the book that was a little unbelievable was that Cass was still labelled as "Fire Girl" for an accident that happened when she was about six years old. I don't think that people would be blaming a little girl for this. It was obvious that Cass probably needed some help for her mental health issues but the parents were never around except occasionally at dinner. I received a free copy through the Early Reads program in exchange for an honest review. ( )
