Make Your Mark, Franklin Roosevelt

Well-written narrative picture book about the childhood of Frankin Delano Roosevelt. The text is divided into chapters, about 7-8 pages long, and occasionally incorporate quotes. The illustrations are in a caricatured style and full of personality. Back matter includes a brief biography and a bibliography. This would pair well with "Nice Work, Franklin!" by Suzanne Tripp Jurmain, which covers his political years.

This book is a great biographical read for children. It sets someone such as President Roosevelt on a level that they understand and can relate to. Hearing about a historical, political figure in his childhood days helps them find common ground. St. George writes in such a way that makes these big figures childlike and reachable to a student. I enjoyed this because it gives a further and more in-depth study in a way into the life of a president. A student doesn't only learn what bills they passed, what they made into laws, or what titles they've had in life. A student also learns what got him to that point and as a child what led up to him being president. This would be a great book to use in a social studies lesson when studying the show more time period and presidency of Franklin Roosevelt. This book was about the life of Franklin Roosevelt. I read two different books about Franklin Roosevelt. This book in my opinion is the better choice to read to children. This is a story that talks about his birth, that he was homeschool, all the way to his presidency. This story goes into details about his life as a child and his dad getting sick etc. Whereas the other book I read wasn’t really a story. It told you facts, a timeline, did you know, etc. Then it broke it up into small section like young Franklin, college and marriage etc. This book I read would had a better flow to it, since it was a story.

This book talk about the early life of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the pleasant life he had. His family had money from both sides, so he did not have an extremely hard life. He was homeschooled most of his life, but was eventually sent to a boys school. I liked this book, and though it was interesting to learn a little more about a past president. I would recommend it for a social studies class that is focusing on the presidents.

It is a wonderful book which tells about life of Franklin Roosevelt. The story is written in a very nice way, but the illustrations of the book are stunning. Britt Spencer had done a fabulous job while illustrating the book. Many colours are used and the protagonist, Roosevelt is on every page. The reader has to look for him.

Franklin Roosevelt had experience from when he was younger until he made it to President. He was a smart and intelligent man who has a background of politics. His uncle was a role model when he went to boarding school. He also learned a lot from his parents. When his father became ill he had to become the man of the family and his mother slowly, but surely left him alone.
