While not top-notch Mauldin, even lesser Mauldin is very much above par. Collections of his editorial cartoon work from the late 1950s on are hard to come by, and this particular book doesn't seem to have been widely published. In general, it covers the first term of Ronald Reagan. While he is somewhat hard on Reagan, more than many cartoonists, Mauldin appears to have some balance; remarkable, considering his personal politics (strongly liberal). Worth picking up if you can find a copy. ( )

A collection of Mauldin's editorial cartoons from 1977 to 1981 or so. His wit is still present, but I liked his art better in the old days (for him). His newer stuff is too simple and takes too many shortcuts. ( )
