A paranormal women's fiction novel for anyone who thought adventure and magic stopped at forty. Guess again, it's just the beginning. I never expected I'd be one of those people who had a midlife crisis. Sure, I'm over forty, and married, but my kids are grown and moved out. Life is steady, if predictably boring. That all changes when my husband asks for a divorce and my whole world crashes. Everything I thought I knew, everything I am, gone in an instant. But I am not about to give up. After all, at my age, technically, I'm only halfway there. I am ready to tackle my do-over; my chance to become the me I've always dreamed of. Starting with moving into my late grandma's cottage and adopting a new kitten. However, my new life is a little odder than expected. Old books suddenly appearing in my house. Neighbors going missing. A supposed lake monster, and a strange man who likes to skulk around with an axe. I'm going to need to lean on my friends, new and old, to help me navigate my midlife crisis. Together maybe we will find a way to beat the family curse ruining my second chance at life. Contains mature themes.… (more)

Well written. I loved the characters, the magic and the snark. ( )

Naomi is a middle aged woman that has let herself go, her husband is divorcing her and her life is about to take a dramatic change. After a series of events Naomi returns to her grandmother's cabin and a place that had fond memories for her and discovers things are not exactly how she remembered them.

Naomi spends almost 90% of the book beating herself up, with a lot of self-criticism and being old talk. She often sounded like she was in her 60's or 70's rather than in her 40's.

The story is very slow paced and while several men make overtures toward her no romance is realized in this first book of the series and most of her suitors aren't very likeable. The author teases you throughout the book with paranormal incidents making your question is it magic or something else. The ending resolves some things but leaves way more items unresolved enticing you to read the next book in the series to see what happens next.

I'm conflicted in this review as I kept expecting romance from one of Naomi's admirers and for Naomi to turn herself around much earlier than she did, leaving me feeling impatient with so much of Naomi's belaboring her age and shortcomings and failing to see her strengths. In saying that there's a lot of potential and interesting characters that will have me reading book two in the series.

I received an ARC copy and am voluntarily leaving a review. That said I expect any editing issues will be resolved before publishing. If you like my reviews I hope you will follow my blog. https://wyldheartreads.wordpress.com/

A midlife divorce sends Naomi back to Canada and her grandmothers cottage. Here she learns she belongs to a family of witches that cursed the town of Cambden. And, someone or some company wants to buy her lake shore property for nefarious purposes.

The title of the book says it all “half way there” a witch’s curse, a legend both mentioned but never explained. Each being touted as reasons for Naomi to “do something”. Who knows!

This story line never became clear, the characters never developed. It was a boring read where I kept waiting for something to make sense.: ( )

Halfway There by Eve Langlais

Paranormal. Cozy mystery style. Woman’s fiction.
Part of a new series of 13 authors, featuring slightly older women in a paranormal setting, living life how they need to. The author’s stories are not connected, but each feature a woman surviving whatever is thrown as life obstacles.

This story open with Naomi, a 40 something housewife, that has done the best she can to avoid confrontation with her husband, her life and family. Now that her husband has demanded a divorce and wants to kick her out of her home. Naomi must rethink her choices and make decisions on moving forward. Returning to her grandmothers cabin on the lake opens Naomi’s eyes to more than just her mid life changes. Strange things are happenings around the small town, but Naomi is sure that magic is not real.

An intriguing town and mystery. A strong woman reconnecting with herself and friends. I admired Naomi’s commitment to restoring her values and not letting the bad influence her. I look forward to reading more of this mysterious town, it’s interesting inhabitants and seeing Naomi become confident in her life and the magic that seems to be hiding just around the corner. ( )

What a great book. I received this book as an ARC from the author with no review required. This is a Paranormal Romance novel. Naomie the main character is starting over again in mid life. Eve Langlais has a way of capturing and conveying emotion in her new series that made relate to her fun characters and loath the villains. Her story captured my attention right from the first page and held it to the last. There are many plot threads inter woven into story. I can't wait to see how they are developed in coming books. ( )
