This is my first book by this author. I had heard of MacGregor before, so when I saw this at Borders for $3.99 I snapped it up….figured I couldn’t beat that plus I had a coupon so it came out even cheaper. Unfortunately, at the time of purchase I didn’t know that this was #7 in the series. By then it was too late and I figured I tried to read it as a standalone. I was lost for the beginning of the book, because of course characters from previous books made an appearance and there were references that I completely missed. Other than this though once I got into the story it was enjoyable enough. The story itself was predictable in the sense of boy hates girl and ends up falling in love with girl along the way. But then the epilogue show more just made it plain weird and hence the 2 star rating. I found out later that MacGregor also writes under the pseudonym of Sherrilyn Kenyon. Under Kenyon the author writes paranormal novels. Apparently, MacGregor/Kenyon forgot what hat she was wearing the day she wrote this epilogue and combined paranormal and historical romance fiction causing a “wtf? was that” ending for readers. It was not so bad and would have earned itself a 3 star ending had the genres not been mixed. So please take the advice of other reviewers, including myself in saying skip the epilogue. You will have a much happier read this way. show less

On a search to find his missing brother, long thought dead until recently, Lochlan encounters the beautiful and shrewish Catarina, who is fending off a group of ruffians who are determined to take her to Paris against her will.

Without missing a beat, the chivalrous laird steps in to save the lovely lass from her kidnappers. After all, she once saved his brother’s life and his family owed her for that, no matter the barrage of insults she consistently pelts Lochlan with.

Sure, the lady tries his patience sorely, but as they travel together, he finds himself liking the spunky lass – against his better judgment. And that ‘liking’ is turning into something a lot more like love…

I became a huge show more fan of author Sherrilyn Kenyon a couple of years ago, and liked her works under that name so much that I have since purchased every book she has published under either that name or the pen name Kinley MacGregor. Alas, with a to-be-read pile that would stand taller than I do, I am still working to catch up on actually reading her back list. And so it is that the third book in the Brotherhood of the Sword series, The Warrior, is the first Kinley MacGregor title I have read.

Although the third book in the series works very well as a standalone novel for those of us who have not yet read the previous books in the Brotherhood stories, It made me more than eager to read the books that came first. There were just enough references to past events and other characters to make me curious without leaving me feeling lost or as if I were missing critical pieces of information necessary to enjoy The Warrior.

Lochlan and Catarina are a fiery match, with Catarina’s penchant for needling her hero keeping him on his toes. She just can’t seem to resist, much to the reader’s delight and Lochlan’s dismay. Of course, that dismay changes to something else as he begins to see the real woman underneath the sharp tongue and barbed wit – a woman he more than admires.

Lochlan himself shows Catarina time and again that he is a thoughtful, caring man who would sacrifice himself to help another – whether a brother, a friend, or a lowly peasant boy. While she is determined to retain her freedom by never submitting to the chains of marriage, she finds herself ill-equipped to resist the man whose very actions unwittingly woo her time and again. For those very actions show him to be a kindred spirit, and a man who she can see herself enjoying a long and happy life with – IF she wanted to marry, that is. LOL

Fans who read this author’s Dark Hunter series will be intrigued by the ending of this book… In a scene that hints of crossover characters, Kinley MacGregor feeds rampant speculation across her fan base. When asked at a recent book signing in Smyrna, Tennessee if we may indeed expect some crossover between these two series, Ms. MacGregor would only answer with a grin on her face and a twinkle in her eye… Was it merely a delicious tease or a hint of things to come? Who can say but the author herself. But I can tell you this, the idea will definitely have this reviewer anticipating the new releases in both the Brotherhood of the Sword series and the Dark Hunter series even more eagerly than I already do!

If you enjoy a spunky heroine who continually confounds her ever-so-noble hero, then pick up this wonderful historical romance! The Warrior is sure to thrill readers both new and familiar with Kinley MacGregor’s work!

Yes you'd probably need to read this series in order but they're still entertaining out of sequence.

Lochlan MacAllister was brutally trained to be his clan's leader. He hears that his brother might be alive and goes hunting for him. Along the way he comes across Cararina, a royal princess who is trying to find some freedom. When the two of them band together they find themselves changing their assumptions about each other.

It's a fun read, the characters are great fun and the building romance is interesting and gripping. A series I really have to read more of.

For a long time I thought this would be a four-star story. However, about half-way through the story structure became a little too apparent for me to enjoy thoroughly: boy meets girl, hate each other, get into trouble, one rescues the other, like each other, get into trouble, one rescues the other, become attracted to each other, get into trouble, one rescues the other, fall in love with each other but don't admit it, get into trouble, one rescues the other, admit their love, get into trouble, one rescues the other, marry. the end.

I wasn't expecting the semi-explicit sexual scenes into a book like The Warrior, but then again, the author is of course known for erotic literature as well.

The setting in medieval Europe (Scotland, England show more and France) is nice and the written dialects make it appealing to read. It was a long time ago I read a book written from the third-know-it-all-person and I'm happy I encountered it again as it allows for interesting perspectives as a reader.

Not sure if I'll read other `Brotherhood of the Sword' or `MacAllister' books. Perhaps if someone can recommend them?

First one I've read of this series. Nearly as good as her early dark hunter books and with a nice twist.
Lochlan captures the essence of what a man should be. Loyal, responsible and fierce. Catatrina is carefree and passionate. An unforgettable story of finding love when one least expects it and discovering what one will do for it.
I remember liking this book and vaguely remember the premise. I went to Sherrelyn Kenyon's book signing and had a copy autographed, so must have liked it that much since I had plenty of Dark Hunter series I could have had signed. Unlike her Dark Hunters, this was a historical romance with a little ghost action, if memory serves.
