Description

This is one of the oldest collections of Buddhist discourses in the Pali canon; by far one of the most popular as well as the most important. Written in a mixture of prose and verse, it presents a code of conduct and provides the basis for a system of moral philosophy. A prime source work.

Wide-ranging and important poetry collection from the Pali Canon. Many scholars think the fourth and fifth of the five sections of this collection could be among the earliest Buddhist texts of all. Also contains the Metta Sutta, usually seen as the root text for the practice of the cultivation of loving-kindness.
This is a much looser, though more poetic, translation, than Norman's.
Excellent translation of Sutta Nipata
