Description

What if you accidentally fell in love with the right guy? Andy: If my life was a movie, I would be the sidekick. Not an especially promising start when my plan is to finally let my best friend know I have a crush on him. I just need a complete makeover. Change everything about myself so that when Falcon returns from his summer vacation, he can finally see I'm the love of his life. If I knew what I was doing, I wouldn't look like every nerd cliche wrapped into one awkward package. In short, show more I'm screwed. But then Law Anderson enters the picture . . . Law: I need somebody to tutor my hockey team, and Andy needs somebody to help him with his crush. Only the more time I spend with Andy, the more I like this quirky guy who makes me laugh, and pretty soon I'm the one who's tutoring Andy in way more than we initially agreed upon. But as weeks pass and the chemistry between us turns explosive, I'm starting to think that I might be in way over my head with Andy. If only I could make Andy realize that he doesn't need to change himself for love. If only I could make Andy see that he just needs to be with somebody who has considered him perfect all along . . . Contains mature themes. show less

Jenson_AKA_DL Both "Project Hero" and "Red, White & Royal Blue" are fun coming of age stories involving young college age men entering their first serious relationships.

Andy is determined to win over his best friend, Falcon, and prove to him that he can be something more than just his little brother. Unfortunately, things rarely work out for Andy and finding the ambition to move forward with his "Project Hero" seems impossible. Enter Law, former hockey player extraordinaire turned assistant coach for the university. Law needs a tutor in physics for his team and Andy needs a tutor in how to get Falcon to notice him romantically. It seems like a winning match until both Andy and Law realize something more than tutoring may be growing between them.

When a book makes me laugh within the first couple chapters, that is really a very good thing. This was a grand coming of age YA story that I really enjoyed. I show more liked Andy's sarcasm (both internal and external monologues) and Law was such a sweetie. Towards the middle it seems like it might start to get a little maudlin (as romances sometimes do), but the story pulled itself short on that and quickly picked back up. I thought it was great that the author didn't portray the characters being gay as anything other than a normal thing in the eyes of their family, friends and society in general. Absolutely no angsting in that respect which was nice. There were some explicit scenes so I'm not sure that I would entirely recommend this as a teen story, but I think it does belong in the older YA category. I would certainly recommend this story for anyone looking for a light hearted, feel good and humorous tale. show less
3.5 stars. Cute, somewhat wordy jock/nerd college student love story. Andy is hilarious, and his character growth is notable, especially as he realizes that there are other roles to play besides "hero" or "sidekick." Law is perhaps a little too perfect, and his journey isn't as obvious, but Andy helps him feel more confident about his decision to follow his dreams instead of the ones his parents have for him. Lots of humorous scenes and dialogue, although some of the extraneous details could have been eliminated to make the book tighter. Really quite impressive for a debut, and I'd read definitely read more books by this author.
Very pleasant book. Whole bunch of wonderful characters and zero villains. Law is a college student/hockey coach but, thankfully, there are no game scenes. Andy is a physics geek who is hired to tutor the hockey team but suffers from stage fright. His character development is fun to listen to.

Law offers to help Andy get the confidence to confess love to his childhood friend Falcon in exchange for Andy to help the hockey team pass the physics course.

I chose this book because it was narrated by two of my favorite narrators. I would have loved them to switch characters because Kirt Graves would have given Andy a tiny bit of melancholy and vulnerability, and Joel Leslie would have made Law sound a bit more oblivious (he really isn't but show more pretends to be.) show less
Project Hero is a really sweet story, and a perfect comfort-read. It took me some time to get into it, because I’m not a fan of the ‘pining for the wrong guy’ trope, but Andy was so freaking adorable and nerdy that I just had to keep reading. And then it got so much better! Andy and Law had great chemistry. They made such a lovely couple, and their banter was hilarious. A very enjoyable read despite all the clichés.
Loved it. BriarP will be a new go-to author for me. I love the full on humour but it isn't 'in your face' - its normal level funny as portrayed by the characters personalities. Nothing extreme or overly situational. Just great dialogue between two adorable MCs - in this case hunky Law Anderson and the adorkable and acerbic Andy Carter.

Fabulous narration by Kirk Graves and Joel Leslie ❤️

I hadn't remembered how funny and pure this book is. Its just a burst of fun and sunshine, feel-good and happiness. The MCs (Andy & Law's) repartee is fabulous.

Narrated by Kirt Graves & Joel Leslie - just great. Andy's voice is particularly spot on!
This was my first by this author and it was sweet and fluffy and well written.
This story is just adorable. ADORABLE. 4 stars for for pure happy hearts and entertainment value
