Come Back, Lucy

What a delight to find and read this book that I've thought of since way back when I was a young girl! This is the book that turned me into a reader! For nearly 30 years I've tried to recall the title of this book, but just couldn't come up with it. Then one day I saw that right here on Library Thing there is a section in the groups called Name That Book and so I entered a description of the book (as best I could recall) and within an hour someone responded with the title and author! I searched and found the book description and thought it was the right book. I was able to find the book for sale on eBay and ordered it immediately. I just finished reading it and it most definitely is the book that I fell in love with all those years ago! show more The story revolves around little eleven year old Lucy who was twice orphaned and was sent to live with relatives she never knew she had and who were so very different from her. While trying to adjust to her new life she makes a new 'friend' who used to live in the house where Lucy now lives. It's a very well written book with strong characters and a good story line. I am overjoyed to own my own copy of this book that I checked out of my small town library so many times as a little girl. show less

One of my favorites as a kid, but it took me a long time to find it again. So glad I did! (I can still imagine the fish and chips scene, with the grease dripping down to her elbow.)
