Description

In the middle of the coldest winter on record, the U.S. goes dark.

An EMP attack destroys the power grid. No electricity. No cars or phones. The country is plunged into instant chaos.

But for Hannah Sheridan, it's the best day of her life. For the last five years, she's been held captive by a sadistic psychopath, until the EMP releases the lock of her prison. Hannah emerges from her underground cell into a hostile winter landscape with no way to call for help, no vehicle that will drive, show more armed with nothing but the clothes on her back and her own determination to survive.

Liam Coleman, a reclusive former Special Forces soldier, is headed nowhere fast. He believed he was prepared for any disaster; then the EMP took everything he'd ever cared about in a matter of seconds. When he runs across a desperate woman who will die without his help, he's forced to make a choice.

Two hundred frozen, perilous miles stand between them and their destination in rural Michigan. But the lack of power, desperate people, and the treacherous elements aren't the only threats, for Hannah's captor isn't about to let her go...

Edge of Collapse is a gripping post-apocalyptic EMP thriller perfect for fans of Ryan Schow, Franklin Horton, A.G .Riddle, Jack Hunt, and Boyd Craven.

*As a special bonus, this audiobook includes the riveting prequel to the Collapse series, Chaos Rising.*

For those of us that love Survival stories, the latest trend is that of the EMP (electromagnetic pulse) that takes out all technology. Planes fall from the sky, cars die, lights go out and with all the power gone, earth as we know it changes. In The Edge of Collapse by Kyla Stone, an EMP has occurred. In one way this is a good thing as Hannah is suddenly free after being held prisoner by a physopath for a number of years, can now try to make it home.

It’s December in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Hannah, accompanied by a loyal dog sets out travelling through a National Forest. She does not realize at first that she is being trailed by her captor, who wants to kill her. She is also 7 or 8 months pregnant. She meets ex-soldier show more Liam along the way and once he learns her story, he vows to get her home. The psychopath catches up with them in a small town but after a night of terror, they escape into the wilderness. Hannah asks Liam if he will teach her self defence and to shoot a gun, knowing her captor will not give up. He agrees and he book ends.

So now I have to pick up the next volume if I want to see Hannah secure her future. This was a quick and rather fun read, although very violent. Luckily it is offered through Kindle Unlimited so I will be able to continue on with he adventure.

Review for whole series - 3 stars.

This is a dystopian story with a twist. Our MC was kidnapped and held by a psycho until an EMP killed the power grid and unlocked her underground prison's doors. Hilarity ensues (okay, not so funny -- the psycho is particularly twisted). The MC escapes and conveniently knows a lot about how to survive in sub-zero weather. I was able to look past that, but the story fell apart after the first two books, especially the unnecessary love triangle and Noah's complete personality 180. The story became less and less fathomable, and in turn less enjoyable. I powered through to the end, but the story did not satisfy. Ultimately a good effort by the author, but just TOO much going on in the story.
What a thriller! I find it hard to review any of this without spoiling the surprise. Suffice it to say that you should not read this before bed, If you are prone to nightmares or if you have anxiety. LoL!

Kayla Stone weaves you into a web of horror, post-apocalyptic landscapes and the worst and best of human behavior. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
While the EMP apocalypse was merely a backdrop for the over all story; Hannah's effort to escape her captivity and return to her family was the thrilling and kept me interested through the whole book.
Started slow and the beginning was wordy, but after Liam and Hannah met things started picking up. Excited to see what happens next.
