Kent County Cricketers A to Z is quite an undertaking, covering all cricketers who represented Kent from the match in 1806 that cricket historians deem to be Kent's inaugural first-class match, to the eve of the Great War. Carlaw is up to the task though, uncovering information on cricketers great and obscure. It's testimony that only a handful of cricketers have a meagre entry under their name.

Carlaw writes with dry humour that keeps the book from monotony and sprinkles the text with the type of quirky facts that make cricket what it is, my favorite being that the father of H.G. Wells once dismissed the grand nephew of Jane Austen.
