Ordinarily I give books with "Utopian" in the title a wide berth, but with Jack Zipes name on the cover, I decided to give this a try. It was well worth it. It is a selection of fairy tales written by German leftist in the period from 1920 to 1929. Mostly they are sharp allegories, prefiguring Orwell's Animal Farm by over a decade. Some of them are too didactic, but many of them make their point in a fun way that both children and adults can enjoy. I've reviewed each story separately.
