I started reading this and seemed to go on and nothing was happening. I decided to read until the first murder and then quit. It took off and there were a lot of twists and turns I did not expect. I did not figure out who the murderer was until revealed. I actually enjoyed the story.

Jordan Poteet and his pals are up in a tree house determined to ride out Hurricane Althea. A tornado comes and the boys go running for shelter. After it is over, the boys find a body of a young girl. Fast forward to present day and they are all adults. One of the men is murdered. The following day another of the group dies in a shooting. Jordan, a librarian goes into investigative mode. Junebug, the police chief and boyfriend of Jordan's sister is shot at show more and then hospitalized. Are all these incidents related? And do they all relate back to that long ago day when they found the body of Rennie Clifton? show less
Yeah, I know. I said I wasn't going to read anymore of this Jordan Poteet
mystery series. But apparently I already had this one in my queue at
booksfree so I read it when it got here. It seems to be the last of the
series, too, written back in 1996, because books Abbott has written since
then have a different protagonist altogether. Actually, that's kind of a
shame, because this story actually had some teeth to it. It still had the
lame names for the characters. I mean, Southern is fine but calling the
chief of police Junebug just grates on me.

Anyway, this story begins 10 years ago when a hurricane tore through central
Texas and left a dead black girl lying in a forest to be found by six young
boys, including Jordan and Junebug. Fast show more forward to today, and one of the
men, Trey Slocum (Jordan's former best friend and now ex-brother-in-law who
had abandoned Jordy's sister and her son), has just returned to Mirabeau,
Texas, after a disappearance of many years. One by one, the now grown
friends are being murdered, day by day, with Trey being the second victim.
But who is doing this and why? And if Jordy and Junebug don't figure this
out pretty quick, it just might be their turn to die.

This one was the best of the three, but still pretty bland and mediocre.
I'll give it a 3.

This is the 3rd in the Jordan Poteet series. Jordy is the town librarian in a small Texas town - this is a cozy mystery and a good fun read.
