Had to give up on listening to this audio book. Hated every single character, except Win, and that's only because he was too ill-formed to offer enough substance to hate. Dull story. Hateful women. Cardboard Hero. Blah! ( )

I read this for a book group. I admit, I started this book with an attitude. It's not a genre I care for. I know there are some good books in the detective genre, but this is not one of them. Lazy writing, bad dialogue, no characterization to speak of. The only good thing about it is it's short and I only gave up a couple of hours of my reading time for it. Not recommended, even to those who like detective novels. ( )

This was ok. Nothing special, just a detective story with a couple of twists and turns. I did like the grandmother though, she was my favourite character. Style and plot what we would expect from Cornwell but with less blood and guts. Not as fast paced as we are probably used to with more of a focus, I felt, on imagery rather than action. Read if you are a fan of Patricia Cornwell. ( )
