Liked the theme of this story; how Heinrick Zook helped Lilly Clark understand how God loved her, and how that it is never based on how hard Lilly tried to live a good life to please God so He would love her. This story takes place is a small South Dakota town, when there was a war going on in Europe. Lilly's fiancé and others from the small town were across the ocean fighting while people waited for letters from them, hoping they were still alive. Lilly befriends a gentle German immigrant at a time when everyone distrusts and hates them. She must choose between her love for Heinrick, and her promise to Reggie, the man who is returning from battle to marry her. There were many lessons to learn from this short but full story. ( )
