Description

Holleran has lived the kind of fast-lane gay life, as he says, now wept over in doctors' offices. He knows that desires haven't changed, but the consequences of those desires have. From the porno movie houses to his own bedroom on St. Marks Place, Holleran tells of his last trick, good sex/bad sex, fear, despair--and hope. He says outright what others secretly think, bringing out into the open the nightmares and the enduring passions.

This is a collection of short stories written about the 70 and and 80's during the time and at the height of the AIDS crisis...Holleran calls it the plague....it is one of many written during the time by Paul Monette, Randy Shilts, Felice Picano and others...at the time there were more relevant and still are but have we tired of these stories? Things have changed dramatically and at time we can find this writing morose and a real downer. He has included a very strange chapter called Beauty NOW...it's anything but beauty...it's a series of rambling writing about every part of the body and then makeup and fashion...Andy...What's this all about...eeeekkk!!!! What redeems this book are the last few chapters written in a quasi=essay style show more that is beautiful and refreshing. It's not a Borrowed Time which was beautiful or a Becoming a Man...it's an OK read. show less
