In keeping with its mandate, MAI presented the exhibition Restaurand Montage d'Or/Gold Mountain Restaurant, by Karen Tam, from May 20 to June 19, 2004. MAI is the only multidisciplinary art venue in Montreal devoted essentially to contemporary intercultural practices originating in the city. With the Karen Tam project [MAI] tried to maintain a balance between the affirmation of certain ideas, on one hand, and the artist's rigorous expressions on the other. We strove to create a zone where the definition of art itself might be challenged.'
