The late, lamented "Movieline" magazine was my introduction to Joe Queenan, where his rants on various issues entertained me no end. "Confessions of a Cineplex Heckler" includes some of these rants as well as a few added extras.

Queenan decides to head to the cinema to see how annoying he could be before other audience members tell him to shut up. It turns out that unless you're a large, angry black man threatening physical pain, Queenan wasn't going to stop bothering you. He seemed to take particular joy in annoying a proto-hipster and even claims to have gotten a laugh out of an audience at an "Indecent Proposal" showing.

When he wasn't heckling at cinemas, Queenan was noting the flourishing film trope of penis and ear mutilations and show more talked about cinema hair and Antonio Banderas.

On reflection, the best sections of "Confessions of a Cineplex Heckler" I had read in "Movieline" but as "Movieline" has gone the way of other things that aren't around any more, this may be your best bet to read some early Queenan.

A last minute find at work tonight.. Already 24 pages in and laughing the whole way.. Funny funny stuff if you're a film buff and don't buy into all of the amazing crap you can supposedly do in movies and 'should' be able to get away with in reality. Glad I saw this, think it's going to be a really easy read.

Update- 7/27/13-
Having been overcome by the excess of new books to my library, I put this gem aside in favor of the aforementioned.

Mistake.

In picking this up again, I'm finding it to be as amusing if not moreso than the first attempt. Pretty great read, looking forward to finishing it this time out.
