"When Keira wakes in a strange forest, she can remember only two things: she can see ghosts, and strange, mask-wearing men are hunting her. She seeks shelter at a church, and the kind pastor offers to let her stay in the groundskeeper's cottage for a few days. But the cottage is situated behind the graveyard, and its spirits are only too eager to make themselves known. This sleepy, quaint town has dark secrets from the past that continue to haunt in increasingly terrifying ways. Keira's shocked to discover her lost memories may be woven through the town's bizarre hauntings, and soon, she's thrown full-tilt into a race to unravel the decades-old mystery...before it's too late"--… (more)

A good ghost story. Keira stumbles upon the town of Blighty. She can?t remember who she is or where she came from. But she does discover she seems to be able to see and hear the dead with a second sight. Quite a fun story with good characters. Goodreads: Homeless, hunted, and desperate to escape a bitter storm, Keira takes refuge in an abandoned groundskeeper's cottage. Her new home is tucked away at the edge of a cemetery, surrounded on all sides by gravestones: some recent, some hundreds of years old, all suffering from neglect. And in the darkness, she can hear the unquiet dead whispering. The cemetery is alive with faint, spectral shapes, led by a woman who died before her time... and Keira, the only person who can see her, has become her new target. Determined to help put the ghost to rest, Keira digs into the spirit's past life with the help of unlikely new friends, and discovers a history of deception, ill-fated love, and murder. But the past is not as simple as it seems, and Keira's time is running out. Tangled in a dangerous web, she has to find a way to free the spirit... even if it means offering her own life in return.

(2021) Pretty good ghost story where the ghosts are benevolent. Keira doesn't know who she is as she is chased into a small town. She finds herself at a parsonage next to a cemetery where she can hear the ghosts talking to her. She is especially drawn to one of them (Emma) who needs closure on her baby's fate about 20 years ago. Book Page: Need a horror tale sure to raise a few goosebumps? Darcy Coates will have you gripping the covers with the immediately entertaining The Whispering Dead. Keira awakens in a dreary forest without her memory, hunted by unknown men and desperate for answers. After taking refuge in a house near a cemetery, she discovers that she can hear the whispers of the dead coming from among the gravestones. Now she's on a mission to find out who she is, why she's being followed and how she can bring peace to the ghosts that haunt the town of Blighty. In one of the strongest starts to any book I've read this year, The Whispering Dead instantly pulls the reader into the horrors Keira encounters. That said, Coates also includes many lighter moments and hilarious quips, so there's plenty to enjoy here beyond the spooks and scares. Some questions about Keira's past are left unanswered as this is the first book in a planned series, and I suspect anyone who reads it will be itching for the sequel.

A surprise to me, this was very good. Much better than anticipated. A lot going on, and fortunately, more books in the series to tell the tale. ( )

i thought this was soild read and gave me both ghost whispers vibes and as mediator vibes. I also started getting scooby gange vibes and also mosnter of the week vibes. I really like the story and the anminsea element made the story really easy to follow. The world building was a bit lacking and i still feel like i don;t know much of the why. But it was a super quick read for sure def want to read book 2! ( )
