A surprisingly dark story about the torment of servitude and the power of love to break the chains of enslavement. I didn't think Harlequin let their authors run with such savage characterization and brutal imagery, but I'm glad they did. The villain was truly heinous, so cheering for the good guys came easy... even when I wasn't quite sure who the good guys were. (B )
This book had a far more complex world and structure that I had expected from a silhouette nocturne. It was more fantasy than romance really, with the h/h spending lots of time apart, and a lot of attention given to Risk, the hero's background(I do hate silly names.) Lusse the villianous witch was also great. I'm not quite sure how the ending worked, but they all seemed happy enough, and I'm definitely looking out for the next one.

Risk is a hellhound bought and held by a witch who uses him to hunt and bring to her other witches so she can drain their powers. Kara's desperation to find her identicle twin, Kelly, leads her to the bar Guardian's Keep where she is hunted by terrifying dogs and saved by a mysterious man who knows more about her than she knows about herself. That she is a witch with unimaginable powers that can either save her and her sister, or corrupt her very soul.

This is the first of Silhouette's Nocturne novels that I have read. Although I haven't heard wonderful things about the series so far, I thought that Unbound was certainly a well written and interesting paranormal romance. The main characters of Risk and Kara were likable and I really show more enjoyed the subplot involving Risk's son. I also liked that characters other than vampires and weres were involved and the author has created an interesting universe that I would certainly not mind reading more stories in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Unbound to my fellow lovers of paranormal romances. show less
Kara's sister is missing. While searching for her she has to confront some of her fears, however, her fears aren't big enough for what's really going on as she finds out that there is an otherworld of paranormal creatures and that she's one of them.

Risk is a hellhound, tasked with searching out witches for the witch he's bound to to drain. Kara is different and he finds himself drawn to her.

It's an interesting story, full of norse mythology and some interesting details, nothing earthshaking but quite interesting all the same.
