Cade is in the states from Japan to attend Weston's wedding, but he's really there because he received word from Jolie, the love of his life that left him at graduation. He's never really gotten over her and carries a lot of anger, frustration, and abuse they both suffered at the hands of her father. It's a gut punch to see her again and she has only one need from him...murder. She's been off the radar for some time because Cade had Donovan looking for her. Yes, this book is chock full of more information on Donovan! I love the reveals made as Donovan is still manipulating people where he wants them. The story delves into Cade's involvement with Nate in the "art" world where Donovan found them both. A kaleidoscope of flashbacks from the past and the present had Cade and Jolie learning things about themselves and trying to put the past to rest. The end of this book ends with a huge twist setting up for the next book in the series. ( ) 4.5 stars This entire interconnected series has had me invested in the characters and their individual stories since they were first introduced. Perhaps, the most interesting out of all of them was Cade. He was a mystery and pretty much an unknown. This book changed that in a big way. This story was everything that I didn't know that I wanted and or needed. Cade is by far the best of the bunch. The story started a little slow for me because it didn't make a whole lot of sense for Jolie to turn up and ask what she did. Especially, as there wasn't much backstory. It seemed a little unplausible. That feeling went away pretty quickly. Even though that part of the story still remains a mystery, it was okay because I could tell that it would eventually be revealed. The story continued in a way that it didn't stand out and make me focus on just that. I look forward to more interactions with Jolie and Cade because it was a slow build into anything steamy or true interactions in a romantic type way until very late in the book. Normally, that would bother me but I found that, again, my focus was on the story and unravel the mystery. I LOVED seeing Donovan do all the things that Donovan does. He is such a great character. The book of course ended on a cliffhanger since this is part of a trilogy. However, even knowing that going in did NOT prepare me for the whopper of a bombshell of the last few lines. I can't say anything because it would spoil the story but good lord well played to this author. Things make A LOT more sense now. Looking forward to the next book. I sure hope it isn't a long wait because this was a great story. "You're going to wreck me all over again." Holy Hannah!! This was amazing! What would you do, if a love from your past, one who broke your heart and had been out of your life for nearly two decades, came to you, asking you for an unspeakable favor? Well, welcome to Cade's life. He's torn between the hurt and hatred and bitterness he has for her, and the love for her that never left him. She is at the end of her rope and Cade is the only one she can turn to - the only one that knows she's right about what needs to be done. Will he do it? You'll have to read it to find out! You will not believe the secrets that are revealed, or the twist at the end!! Don't expect to get this all wrapped up by the end though. This is book one of a trilogy so don't be suprised at the cliff hanger! I can't wait for the next book! no reviews | add a review
We were supposed to run away after graduation. When she didn't show at our meeting place, I got brave and went after her. It was a mistake. I left bloodied and bruised. I had no choice but to walk away. Years passed. I traveled, settled halfway around the world, made enough money that I didn't have to look back. But I never got over her. Then, out of the blue, she calls, and, what she asks for, the favor that she wants? I never thought I'd be willing to take a life, but the truth is, and always has been: I'd do anything for her.
