The attitude of this story is that reactionary old farts on longevity treatments know best and should be handed the position of Venus explorers and Heroes of Humanity, because that is the level of respect they naturally deserve. If not, they might get so bored they commit suicide. What could have been a story about new-found purpose is instead a one of paternalistic entitlement.

Furthermore, most of the story is told, not shown, through dialogue, and all the potentially exciting stuff (preparing a space mission to Venus) is handled off-screen, in reported speech, and (most bafflingly) is skipped over via scene cut.

So yeah, I found this story to be unpleasant and incompetent. ( )
