Description
Straight, two-time Hugo Award nominee Chuck Tingle's first horror novella, is now in audio! When a strange tear in the cosmos appears within Earth's annual path, the consequences are disastrous. For one night a year, the vast majority of humans now undergo a frightening mental change, transforming into hateful, rage-fueled zombies who will stop at nothing to satiate their desire for brutality. While not much is understood about this horrific mass hysteria, the demographic it effects is very show more specific: cisgender straight people. A few years after the first of these tragic events, four friends from across the queer spectrum look for safety in solitude, hunkering down in a remote desert cabin for what is now known as Saturation Day. With a vaccine available for straight people to curb their violent episodes, some predict the worst is over. Others aren't so sure. As night falls, it becomes clear that survival isn't guaranteed this Saturation Day. show lessTags

This novella was all of the things: fun, funny, horrific, gory, poignant, a little preachy (but some need that so I wasn't mad at it), fast, and on point. Having read and really liking Camp Damascus, I was expecting more of the same from Mr. Tingle and this didn't disappoint. I had the same trouble I always do with novellas, I always want more from some part of the story, which of course defeats the purpose of the novella LOL. If you've got a little spare time, I suggest this, it's short and will keep you entertained, the narration is great!
This is the first thing I’ve read from Chuck Tingle, who’s a name prominent in the bookosphere for writing a bunch of “something pounded me in the ass” books. I’m not sure what those are about. I wanted to read something serious from him, and this was about the only thing I could find. It’s fine. It would make a good movie. The idea is sound, and a nice allegory for the persecution of LGBT people. But it needed revision; there were a lot of typos and issues with composition, like the author uses “arial” (a font) when he means “aerial” (airborne). I know he has another longer book out–Camp Damascus–which is, I think, a horror story about a gay conversion camp. But I really have no desire to read it after sampling show more this. show less
Fun premise and good message, but about as subtle as being whacked in the side of the head with a baseball wielded by a well-muscled gay man.
