Do you ever have those nights when it's way past your bedtime, the witching hour is approaching, and you just can't sleep? I do, and if I'm not binge watching a show, then the odds are that I'm looking for a fanfiction or guilty pleasure book that provides me some meaningless fluff and romance. This is one of those books. I bought it purely for the steamy romance potential. And it does provide that. The sex scenes are numerous, detailed, and pretty sexy. Actually, they verge on the border of being so overly detailed and descriptive that they fall into the absurd realm, but that's okay for a midnight read where much is forgiven for the sake of escapism. There is plot. It takes second place to the chemistry between the main characters, but it's there, and is developed enough to be a little more than a vehicle for the sex. The writing is sufficient to paint a picture of the scene and develop the romance. The hero is a jerk. Yes, I know, that's the point of it - the bad boy with the heart of gold. However, he's so awful at the beginning that even his groveling at the end of the novel maybe isn't enough of a redemption. It does make for good friction with his romantic counterpart. In short, I got what I was looking for, it's what I would expect from an ebook romance. I don't find it to be of the highest quality, but I was interested enough in the side characters to pick up the next book in the series, which is the love story involving some of those side characters. I'll save that for another sleepless night in my future. ( )
