A bighearted novel about falling in love, making a mess, and learning to let go, When You Get the Chance is the next effervescent novel from Emma Lord, New York Times bestselling author of the Reese Witherspoon YA Book Club pick You Have a Match.
Nothing will get in the way of Millie Price's dream of becoming a Broadway star. Not her lovable but super introverted dad, who raised Millie alone since she was a baby. Not her drama club rival, Oliver, who is the very definition of Simmering Romantic Tension. And not her "Millie Moods," the feelings of intense emotion that threaten to overwhelm. Millie needs an ally. And when an accidentally left-open browser brings Millie to her dad's embarrassingly moody LiveJournal from 2003, Millie knows just what to doâ??find her mom.
But how can you find a new part of your life and expect it to fit into your old one without leaving any marks? And why is it that when you go looking for the past, it somehow keeps bringing you back to what you've had all along?

This is a cute YA about a Broadway obsessed teen girl trying to find her Mom and sort of re-creating Mamma Mia while she does it.

Teen romance, theater kids, Broadway references galore.

Fun and lighthearted. Now it's time to go listen to some ABBA. ( )

I really loved this book. As a self pofessed theater nerd this was everything and I loved. This book followed a theater nerd on a quest to find her birth mom. This book really focused on found fmaily, a fun sumemr job, a hate to more romance, a smaller cast of characters. This book made me laugh out loud. I really loved the anviety rep but this book just made me smile. I really felt how truthful this was about the theater world and really loved all the side characters!! Such a great read. If you loved tweet cute, def check this one out! ( )

Next time someone tries to recommend me a certain book featuring the haters-to-lovers trope, I'm throwing this book at them. In hardcover. Because THIS, this is how you successfully so haters-to-lovers!!!

I loved this. What a delight. Millie moods felt sooo real, and Millie's desire for success and love was beautifully crafted. Emma Lord is a champ. ( )

This is a delight. Millie has no clue who her mother is, but her semi-reclusive father and her Lesbian aunt have done their best to love and raise her. She lives her life going from what she calls one 'Millie mood' to another. Her best friend Teddy lives across the hall and is obsessed with geocaching, while buttoned down Oliver is her nemesis, at least in all things theatrical.
When Millie gets it into her head to discover her mystery mother's identity, in part thanks to Teddy's finding an old online account her father created while in College, it's the beginning of several things. She blunders her way into competing with Oliver for a summer internship at a talent agency, makes friends with the daughter of one of the three women she thinks might be Mom, behaves impulsively in several situations where she nearly burns bridges and has to do some deep soul searching about whether her plan to go to an advanced performing arts school all the way across the country is the right move. It ends with multiple happily ever afters, each one satisfying. ( )

I get about as far as "Dear Millie Price, we are delighted to inform you" before I emotionally black out like I've just been whiplashed by a rainbow and drop-kicked into a river of glitter.
