With “The Landower Legacy” we have another Holt novel that features a long suspenseful build-up to a climax that’s over too soon, and in this case underwhelming.

Although I liked Caroline and most of the other characters, the narrative plodded along too slowly for my tastes. Caroline’s early years proved the most entertaining, while her stint in France bored me.

I often feel that this author doesn't squeeze the full potential out of dramatic/exciting/frightening scenarios. She's great at building suspense, creating mystery, but tends to resolve her heroine's most trying moments too quickly and too easily, as I feel she's done here.

Overall, an average read with potential to have been much better.
A nice easy read from the wonderful pen of Victoria Holt. The characters were believable (mostly) and the settings were gorgeous. Not a challenging read, more a leisurely amble through well-trodden paths but enjoyable to the VH fan of old that I am.
