A wonderful book of America where imagery abounds. Whether you've been there or not Guthrie's song makes you feel like you have. The book also shows the troubled side of America and how we must remember to share what we have. It's a lot of history, easy to follow and whole lot of good all wrapped up in one.
Illustrator Kathy Jakobsen created a wonderful tribute to Woody Guthrie with her picture book "This Land is Your Land". Her double-page oil paintings illustrate six verses of the folksinger's famous song and the chorus pages are bordered by margins which she declares were inspired by the "boxes, picture frames, and mirror frames crafted by tramps, hoboes, miners, and lumberjacks in the early to mid-1900's." Also in the margins are quotes from Guthrie's other writings. At the end of the book, readers can find an "Afterward" by folksinger Pete Seeger, a short biography of Guthrie, and the music to the song. This is a book students can read over and over and discover something new each time.
The texts in this book are the words to the song “This land is your land” by woody Guthrie. The words come to life with the illustrations in this book. I would love to read this book to students because it sends such a great message, that America is a place where everyone should be equal and we should work together to help each other. It would also be interesting to let the students listen to the song to give them a background before reading the book.
A terrific picture book that honors America and Woody Guthrie's legacy.
Featuring the complete lyrics and musical notation to the beloved anthem This Land Is Your Land, as well as a photo-essay about Woody, a note from his daughter Nora Guthrie, and a tribute by beloved folksinger Pete Seeger, this stunning book paints an unforgettable picture of our diverse land.
Cute illustrations but the lyrics found in this book are bland and cheesy.
This was a good book. I like the American pride throughout the book. The song is one of my favorites from my childhood.

Woody Guthrie was born in Oklahoma and traveled this whole country over -- not by jet or motorcycle, but by boxcar, thumb, and foot. During the journey of discovery that was his life, he composed and sang words and music that have become a national heritage. His songs, however, are but part of his legacy. Behind him Woody Guthrie left a remarkable show more autobiography that vividly brings to life both his vibrant personality and a vision of America we cannot afford to let die. show less
