I’ll admit it. I’m a tie-wearer. At home it may be all t-shirts & jeans, but when I’m traveling on business, be it to the office, a clients, or a conference, I wear ties. Often I’m the only one in the building so attired. But I enjoy wearing them.

So when I spotted this book on our last visit to the UK I just had to pick up a copy (it being signed by Mr. Fry was a nice bonus.)

You don’t have to be a tie-wearer to enjoy this trip through select items from Stephen Fry’s extensive collection, but it may help.

He uses each tie as a springboard for discussions on design, retailing, history, arts, symbolism, and the occasional personal anecdotes all told in his jovial self-deprecating conversational style.

Dotted through the book are show more occasional instructional diagrams of the various way to, well, tie a tie.

A fun read that will make me think about the stories behind my modest collection of around twenty examples of neck wear.
