Description

"?Led to Sissel's threshold by the winged lion imprisoned within it, Laios and friends steel themselves for...some heavy-duty cleaning?! Sissel's seemingly innocuous cottage is piled with clutter, hindering both their search for the lion and their meal prep! Once satiated, the party hastily lays plans for Falin's rescue. In the first half of the book, our adventuring group manages to kill and eat a few monsters in ways most macabre -- always my favorite part of this series -- before giving us an origin for Sissel the Lunatic Magician and jumping into a climactic battle with him that brings us to a cliffhanger leaving desperate for the next volume.
In this installment, Laios' party reaches the Lunatic Magician's home and release half of the Winged Lion from captivity. Unfortunately, now that the seal has been broken and the Winged Lion sprung, the Magician is headed straight to them. The group hastily makes a plan to defeat him.

They prepare a huge meal to entice Falin in monster form. After she falls asleep, they will kill her and then the magician. Once Laios is master of the dungeon he'll be able to return Falin to normal.

During the execution of the first part of the plan, the whole party is killed except Marcille which reveals her own anxiety about outliving her friends. She confesses to the Winged Lion that she wants to make the lifespan of the races equal.

The plan to entice show more and kill Falin succeeds, but while they are occupied, the Magician and the Winged Lion fight. We learn more about how the Magician, Sissel, came to be the dungeon master - a choice he made to save his kingdom. However, over time, he became paranoid and power mad.

After a brief conflict, the Winged Lion is resealed and when the party meets the Magician in combat, he is no longer hampered. They will have to defeat him alone.

This series still has some of the best art. The scene where all the dragons are gathered together in that giant spread is truly impressive. Kui just does such beautifully detailed work. I also really loved all the stuff with Marcille this volume. She has a lot of great moments.
This volume is a lot of fun.
Now the wait for next volume.
