An emergency call to pick up an injured stallion on the side of the road sends Alexandra Hart, the new owner of Hart's Horse Rescue, into action. A recent addition to the area, she is not impressed when the animal's taciturn owner shows up. With his less-than-stellar disposition, he's the kind of man she normally avoids at all costs, unfortunately, he owns the ranch just down the road. However, when the manhunt for a pair of escaped prisoners gets a little too close for comfort, Jonas turns out to be a better neighbor than she expected. The Alex who shows up at his ranch to help with his prize stud's recovery is not exactly who Jonas Harvey expected. This is the same bleeding heart he met on the side of the road. Worried she's not up for the job, he'd prefer to keep a close eye on her but his High Mountain Trackers team gets called in to track down a group of domestic terrorists. But the slip of a woman proves him wrong. On all fronts. Alex not only charms his horses but him as well, and when trouble comes calling she proves to be a worthy ally to boot. High Meadow Trackers #1
Joy Indeed! – Why? – I am beginning a NEW series by one of my FAVORITE authors! I am sure unveiling a new work isn’t easy for the author and yet so looked forward to by their fans. This author has NEVER failed me! She has done it again and I am 100% invested in a new series that I know will be a delight first book to last!
What I liked:
* That the main characters are a bit older and easy for me to relate to though these are still twenty years younger than I am.
* Alexandra “Alex” Hart: widow, mother of 23-year-old son in the military, owner and operator of horse rescue business, horse whisperer, good friend, comfortable with herself, strong, intelligent and someone I would love to have as a friend.
* Jonas Harvey: retired career military, tracker, horse ranch owner, works with his comrades in arms, side business tracking with his team mates, divorced, son of a ranch owner, team player, intelligent, focused, a bit taciturn-grumpy on first meeting, good boss-usually, perfect for Alex
* Lucy: Alexandra’s colleague and friend, has a backstory I am curious about, strong, chef caliber cook, good with animals, independent, appeals to more than one male she meets, want to know more about her and hope she will show up in a future book
* Ama: Jonas’ major domo, capable, reliable, inquisitive, a force to be reckoned with and wife of James Waitike – one of Jonas’s team
* Sully, Bo, Fletch: the other three men that are part of the team that works with Jonas
* Thomas: Jonas’s father, widow, sold his ranch and moved to live with Jonas, good man, interesting, and guarding a secret – that does come out
* Jackson: Alex’s son, twent-three, in the military, home before heading to special ops training, all grown up, hoping he will have a book of HIS own in the future (hint…hint)
* The animals and their stories met in this book
* The location (Montana), plot, writing, romance, introduction to characters that will show up again,
* the suspense part of the story and how it all played out
* Finding out who the main bad guy was…didn’t read the end this time and it was a surprise
* Knowing that there is another book to look forward to
What I didn’t like:
* Exactly who and what I was meant NOT to like
* Knowing I have to WAIT to read the next book in the series!
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!
Thank you to the author and Buoni Amici PR for the ARC – This is my honest review.
