Ghost Stories

A bit of a cross between M.R. James and P.G. Wodehouse, in that the book mostly consists of what might be called "genteel" ghost stories starring a recurring cast that might have just stumbled out of the Drones Club. The protagonists are often half-drunken idlers who have a distinctly limited capacity to cope with everyday life, let alone an eruption of the supernatural. All in all, quite amusing. A couple of the stories, though, do touch closer to the uncanny quick as well as the dead -- "The Prince of the Jews", and, in particular, "To Lamoir."
