Eleanor Scott is one of that select group of writers of Ghost Stories which include R.H.Malden,H.Russell Wakefield,A.N.L.Munby and of course M.R.James. Scott is less well known than the others, but in 'Randells Round' has produced some equally chilling tales.
'Randalls Round' concerns a seemingly innocent folk-dance which takes place at night at an ancient burial-mound.
In 'The Twelve Apostles' an American purchases an historic Manor house with a secret room. He discovers a series of clues which leads him to a treasure and its slimy guardian.
'Celui-La' finds a over-curious person who on discovering a small box buried in sand,in which is a piece of parchment with some writing in latin thereon. He probes further than he should and raises not show more one,but two horrid creatures.
'The Cure' involves the Hellfire Club and human sacrifice.
In the story 'At Simmel Acres Farm' a man recovering from a back injury, together with a friend,go on holiday to a remote farm. All is well until one of them discovers a spring overlooked by a sinister statue. After drinking water from this spring, changes begin to occur to one of these men to no good effect.
'The Old Lady' in the final tale is as evil as they come and intent on a visitors life and soul.
There are another three stories in this wonderful collection and the whole lot make for a truly terrific read. show less
