Description
"The queen of beach reads" (New York Magazine) delivers an immensely satisfying page-turner in this tale about a summer of scandal at a storied Nantucket hotel.Fresh off a bad breakup with a longtime boyfriend, Nantucket sweetheart Lizbet Keaton is desperately seeking a second act. When she's named the new general manager of the Hotel Nantucket, a once Gilded Age gem turned abandoned eyesore, she hopes that her local expertise and charismatic staff can win the favor of their new London show more billionaire owner, Xavier Darling, as well as that of Shelly Carpenter, the wildly popular Instagram tastemaker who can help put them back on the map. And while the Hotel Nantucket appears to be a blissful paradise, complete with a celebrity chef-run restaurant and an idyllic wellness center, there's a lot of drama behind closed doors. The staff (and guests) have complicated pasts, and the hotel can't seem to overcome the bad reputation it earned in 1922 when a tragic fire killed nineteen-year-old chambermaid Grace Hadley. With Grace gleefully haunting the halls, a staff harboring all kinds of secrets, and Lizbet's own romantic uncertainty, is the Hotel Nantucket destined for success or doom?
Filled with the emotional depth and multiple points of view that characterize Hilderbrand's novels (The Blue Bistro, Golden Girl) as well as an added dash of Roaring Twenties history, The Hotel Nantucket offers something for everyone in this compelling summer drama. show less

I never thought I'd qualify a novel as tacky, but here we are! The story is schmaltzy and predictable, but I expected that, and as far as the genre goes, it kept me happily entertained with a tongue-in-cheek style that I enjoyed. I did eye roll at all the gimmicky Millennial pandering, but what had me really gagging was the lavish "style": from Dom Pérignon in a vodka cocktail to brass portholes in the hotel, there were so many tacky details even a kitsch designer would have an apoplectic attack. Also, it kept me reading to see what over-the-top hilarious detail would pop up. I was not disappointed.
Highly readable if one parks one's brain.

I loved this book! Whether you read it in the summer as a beach read, or at any time of the year, it’s a fun, feel-good story full of (mostly) endearing characters who become like family. I didn’t want the summer - nor the book - to end.
The Hotel Nantucket is a Gilded Age gem rescued from neglect by an unsurpassed world class renovation bankrolled by a mysterious multimillionaire. It’s staffed with a varied crew of professionals and first-timers, and includes a celebrity chef-run restaurant, an amazing employee breakroom, and a top-of-the-line wellness center. And a ghost! The goal of the summer is to win the coveted “five keys” review from secretive hotel reviewer Shelly Carpenter.
It’s a story of second chances: for the show more hotel, for General Manager Lizbet (with a possible romance), repentant preppy Chad, even for Grace Hadley, the 19-year-old chambermaid killed in a 1922 tragic fire who haunts the hotel.
This is a novel with a likeable and cohesive ensemble cast rather than focusing on just a few main characters, and I loved the way they matured and developed (or revealed) honorable qualities. Some of the staff had complicated pasts with secrets, and the author skillfully divulged a few surprising twists. Several engaging sub-plots came together to make a satisfying, unpredictable, and compelling summer drama. I highly recommend! show less

People love Elin Hilderbrand, and I am so-so on her. It is a beach read type of book for me, nothing too heavy, but an enjoyable escape. The Hotel Nantucket is a story of a group of people who have had heartache of one sort or another, and all come together to run a hotel on Nantucket for a wealthy owner. There is also a ghost that inhabits the hotel, having died in a fire after being trapped inside by the wife angry that her husband had a mistress. The ghost, Grace, flits through the rooms watching the lives of the people in the hotel and nudging people along on their path.
There are some surprises in the book, and some sweet stories. I listened to the audio book and enjoyed the narration.

I haven't read anything by Elin Hilderbrand for quite a while because some of the stories seem too light and there is too much focus on romance. I started reading her books because I want to pretend that I am on Nantucket Island where a lot of my ancestors on my mother's side lived. I will still keep reading her books but I yearn for her to delve in the history of the island, something that she stays away from.
I need a light book after reading a terrifying one so I am grateful for that.
The main character is Lisbet Keaton, who enters the story after a breakup with a boyfriend that she had thought was the one for her. She separates herself from they live together and loses weight and gets a new job as the general manager of the Hotel show more Nantucket. I felt her romantic life was a little boring!
The hotel has a ghost, Grace who was burned to death in fire at the hotel in the 1920s, there was some mystery surrounding herself and she was a very lovable ghost. But the two characters that I would have loved for the author to center the book on are Chadwick Winslow, a rich kid would had every thing and thing that was a terrible accident that he was responsible. I loved how he reacted to this tragedy. And the other one was Edie Robbins, read the book and find out why I loved her.

Reservations for Nantucket please! This book gives readers deep cravings for a fabulous hotel stay that is close to restaurants, shops and the beach. And who knows…there may be a ghost lurking around.
Elin Hilderbrand hits all the marks with this story. It starts when billionaire Xavier Darling from London has purchased The Hotel Nantucket. His goal is to impress two people: Shelly Carpenter who reviews properties on a scale from one to five keys for her blog, Hotel Confidential and the other person he secretly wants to see. He hires Lizbet Keaton as the general manager. She is able to work with an obscene amount of money to put this hotel on the map.
The property which is haunted may be a plus. In 1922, a 19-year-old chambermaid, show more Grace Hadley, was caught in a locked closet and couldn’t escape when a fire broke out on the third floor. Unfortunately, she didn’t make it. “Ghosts are souls with unfinished business on earth, and such is the case with Grace.” After the fire, the hotel was sold and Grace decided to stay.
The hotel went through a few owners and needed a lot of work when Xavier rescued it. After an extensive renovation was completed, it was time for Lizbet to hire the staff. Every person had secrets which will now make me rethink about hotel stays. It was a page turner and the ending caught me by surprise.
The story had well-defined characters in the charming town of Nantucket with food that you could just smell miles away. “The doughnut is so good that Lizbet’s eyelids flutter closed as she has to keep herself from moaning.” If that’s not enough, at the end of the book, the author includes pages of fun places to visit, restaurant favorites and so forth. She has created another best seller.
My thanks to Elin Hilderbrand, Little, Brown and Company and NetGalley for allowing me to read this copy with an expected release date of June 14, 2022. show less

Fun summer read! Pull up a sand chair, put you feet in the ocean and your nose in this book.
Come visit the new Hotel Nantucket. A cast of characters both in front of and behind the front desk. Throw in a billionaire owner who is pushing for an elusive 5 Star review from a mysterious travel writer. Add drama when a ghost is added to the mix. In Hildebrand’s trademark style, you’ll have romance..both falling apart and newly found, the behind the scene workings of an old hotel newly renovated into a beautiful high-end hotel, with All the drama and pressure that entails. All set on the gorgeous island of Nantucket.
Summer just isn’t summer without a book by this author!

I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. As a general rule, I don't typically love this genre, although, there are outliers.
The Hotel Nantucket is a lovely blend of a contemporary beach read, romance, and even historical fiction and ... magical realism? There is suspicion and deceit, but also kindness and love. It was honestly excellent.
