A witty new enemies-to-lovers romance from a New York Times bestselling author: What happens when the proprietress of a seaside inn discovers the romantic charmer she's been corresponding with is the same villain turning her beloved hotel into a gaming hell? Find out in LOVE LETTERS BY THE SEA! When not responding to advice column letters, entrepreneurial widow Mrs. Deborah Cartwright runs bright, beautiful Siren's Retreat, legendary for helping her lovelorn guests find their perfect match. Deborah experienced love years before, and lightning does not strike twice. Although there might be a light flirtation with a certain anonymous letter-writer she's definitely not falling for, there's no time for romance. Not whilst a heartless blackguard is in town to wrest her beloved inn out from under her! Clever, career-minded Mr. Patrick Gretham is the trusted man-of-business for a powerful lord, who is eager to turn this perfectly situated property wasted on lovebirds into a gambling hell the likes of which no one leaves with their fortunes intact. I loved this twist on the enemies to lovers romance trope, with a beautiful historical backdrop for it to unfold on. What happens when you fall in love through anonymous letters, then find out your enemy is the one you've been corresponding with? Sparks of course! This might be a novella, but the slow-burn of the romance will have you practically screaming at the pages for Deborah and Patrick to put their differences aside and admit their feelings for each other. A sweet, quick read that will capture your heart. ( )

Love Letters by the Sea by Erica Ridley
Siren’s Retreat #4

Excellent conclusion to this four-book series set in Brighton, England at the Siren’s Retreat Inn where true love is often found!

What I liked:
* Mrs. Deborah Cartright: inn keeper, widow, soprano once on stage with the opera, believes in one true love…maybe?
* Mr. Patrick Gretham: employed by an earl, business minded, solid, focused, intrigued by his pen pal, hopes there might be more for him in the future
* The legend of the inn and remembering the previous books in the series
* The Tea Room and seeing how Allegra and her husband are doing
* The setting
* That the relationship between the two main characters was not “easy” but definitely worth pursuing
* The book that Patrick put together to give to his employer, the Earl of Edgewick
* The solution that the earl came up with at the end of the book
* Wondering if there might be more books in the future set at the Siren’s Retreat

What I didn’t like:
* Hmmm…can’t think of anything…it all was necessary for the story so…everything was just right!

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely!

Thank you to the author for the ARC – this is my honest review.

4/5 stars!

The widowed heroine is the proprietress of the inn that she built up with her late husband. As his employer wants the property, the hero arrives to persuade the heroine to sell the property. However, the two does not know that they are pen pals that had written letters to each other. As they learn more about each other, will their secrets keep them apart or bring them closer?

This short story by Erica Ridley is an enjoyable read. It flowed smoothly and the couple were delightful to read. I enjoyed the appearances from characters from a previous book and the interactions that the couple individually have with others and together. Overall, it's a solid Erica Ridley book.
