Unconvincingly cardboard Romulans are the major downside of this otherwise interesting book about an enormous space hermit crab. I liked how much life the supporting characters had; good "day players" as it were.
A pretty good Star Trek adventure in which the Enterprise investigates a ghost Romulan space station, only to find that the ship, and the crew, are also suffering a similar energy drain; a situation that becomes more complex when a Romulan warship comes and accuses the Federation of the death of the space station. Not bad.

Dedication
This book has a two-fold dedication:

First, it's for my niece Leslie Danielle Cootware (1964-1989), who, with he life and death, taught me everything I'll ever need to know about dignity. Carpe diem, kid.
Secondly (but no less sincerely), it's for those who have helped along the way, whether or not they know it.
