If you are expecting lots of action with Captain Picard and crew on the Enterprise - D, you will be disappointed. This unique work follows a group of Cadets through Starfleet Academy. The construction of the novel is really a series of short stories of the adventures/misadventures of the group of Cadets. There are cameos from the Next Generation cast that help tie the novel into the larger STAR TREK universe. It is still an amusing read and worth the time.
This is probably my favorite of the Starfleet Academy novels I've read. A great tie in with original characters and events we know of in cannon. This is a book I come back to every now and then when I need a futuristic light read.
