HTML:JOHNSTONE COUNTRY. WHERE NATURE FORGES THE STRONGEST MEN. Smoke Jensen calls the mountains home. The unforgiving wilderness taught him to survive. There's no creature he hasn't fought. There's no storm he hasn't weathered. And there's no man in the untamed West who doesn't fear his name. The Measure of a Man collects two adventures of New York Times bestselling author William W. Johnstone's champion of the American frontier in one volume. War of the Mountain Man Nestled in the north Montana Rockies lies Hell's Creek. A haven for outlaws, every thief and killer with an itchy trigger finger and an appetite for destruction pays their dues to Big Max Higgins, a criminal king seeking to expand his empire. But when he targets the town of Barlow, his gang ends up trading lead with Smoke Jensen, the Last Mountain Man, and the last man they ever should have crossed . . . Law of the Mountain Man In the dead of winter in frostbitten Idaho Territory two ranching outfits are at war, battling over the range. Between them comes Smoke Jensen, traversing the frontier and minding his own business, when he finds himself dodging bullets. In this new omnibus, two of Smoke Jensen’s most exciting adventures are combined for hours of reading pleasure! The novel contains War of the Mountain Man and Law of the Mountain Man tells the tales of the mountain man Smoke Jensen as he faces adversaries of man, beast, and nature.
War of the Mountain Man
Big Max runs one end of the county while the other is run by Red Malone, who has just as many hired guns to rule his empire as Big Max. Together they run roughshod over anyone who dares enter their territory or tell them they can’t do something. When Smoke and Sally ride into Barlow, they know they can’t let the town stay oppressed.
Law of the Mountain Man
Sally, Smoke’s wife, is in Arizona with the twin babies because one of the babies needs the warmer climate due to a lung ailment. Sally loves Smoke and is used to him needing to hit the trail and experience the time alone in the high lonesome. It is colder in Idaho than Smoke thought when he suddenly lands himself in the middle of the largest range war.
From the moment I started reading the War of the Mountain Man until the very end, I was caught up in the action of Smoke as he fought to right the wrongs as well as reading about the heart of Sally helping others. The husband/wife team work together to bring aid and comfort to whomever they meet, but God help those who cross their paths to bring pain to folks! Throughout Law of the Mountain Man, I was engaged especially in the suspense-filled moments when Smoke would go off “hunting” as he was taught by an old mountain man named Preacher. I hope readers enjoy the tale where battles for right and wrong are fought, boys become men, and romance comes when least expected.
