While "Witch Hazel" is very nice to look at, and gives an objectively kind, soft look at the passing of times and shared memories through storytelling, I can't help but feel like this would be quite a boring or even confusing story for most young readers. A niche audience of those dealing with missing an older loved one or a recent death might find something comforting here, but even then, the whole thing is just a bit vague and too reliant on recurring wordless pages of pretty pictures to really hit home. A beautiful book (Molly Idle is a favorite) about the legacy of storytelling and how it evolves and changes. And how we carry it with us even when someone has moved on. ( )

Books don't often make me cry, but this one definitely had me in tears by the end. Beautiful, both in story and in art. ( )

Soft and poignant. Did NOT go over well with my K/1st graders in our Mock Caldecott, but perhaps they're not the target audience. A lovely intergenerational friendship in which the two share memories with and of each other. ( )
