Windsong is so hauntingly beautiful. The main female character Roxana, makes a deal with a talking polar bear. As with all talking animals there's more to him than meets the eye and we just know he's got a backstory that's going to be intriguing.
A year with the bear for reasons I don't want to spoil turned into a semi-nightmare journey/adventure for reasons I don't want to spoil!
The omminious presence throughout the first 10 months of Roxana staying with the Bear kept me on edge, did I have my suspicions? yes, did I convince myself it wasnt right? also yes. Was I actually right? Umm not entirely. That actually blew my mind. I did not expect this novel to take that turn. I was suddenly thrown into an adventure that had me on the edge of show more my seat.
This novel is so beautifully written, the emotions that the writing instills in the reader are perfect, in the sense that it felt like I was connected to the story. I felt so much connection to Roxana - though I've never been in any position she found herself in, she is however just a regular female that we can relate to.
The relationship between her and the bear had me laughing out loud, especially the red scarf and Coca-Cola bottle comment.
The world building in my opinion was so fantastic I could picture being in that castle, for better or for worse the descriptions were that vivid. The cold, the snow, I'm just thankful you can't get frostbite from reading, I really did get transported into Jedria.
Windsong had it all, it made me laugh, it made me (nearly) cry; in the words of Roxana "life doesn't wait for tears to finish" and that ending (without spoiling it)!
I absolutely loved this story, it turned out to be so different to what I've read before and I've come away with a bittersweet feeling. I feel like I'm in denial as I honestly didn't expect anything that I read. show less

A retelling of the East of the Sun and West of the Moon fairy tale. Charming, enchanting, and filled with adventures. Has a mixed vibe of Beauty and the Beast and Narnia.
